Move Naturally

Dan Buettner, author and founder of Blue Zones, shared his research on the 9 secrets from the world's longest living people.  In our Wesley Homes series, we'll share Buettner's findings and how they correlate to life at Wesley Homes. His first finding is to "Move Naturally
The world’s longest-lived people don’t pump iron, run marathons or join gyms. Instead, they live in environments that constantly nudge them into moving without thinking about it. They grow gardens and don’t have mechanical conveniences for house and yard work." At Wesley Homes, residents and staff recently completed a Great Iditarod Race. With 192 participants, they walked, ran, swam, cycled and exercised achieving 56,000 miles during the 14 week long event. Most important, the Great Iditarod Race at Wesley Homes inspired more people to add excercise to their daily routine.
